Excessive Controls?

Why does the board administration here require all new potential board users to first gain his / her personal permission before beginning to post?

Is the administrator here an insecure control freak, or is there perhaps some other more reasonable explanation?

    Definitely a control freak!

But also, forums of any kind these days are being endlessly bombarded with spamming bots. For every three valid new users who register, there are litterally 100 or more fake accounts registered by spammers. Therefore, it is becoming more and more common for administrators to have to personally validate every new account that is registered in order to delete all the spam accounts so they don’t start posting adds for viagra and penis enlargements all over the forum.

Iam the owner of the more movement nagualism related forum in spanish, and the owner of the spanish yahoo groups with more members.

My Job is Dba ( data base admin ) and programmer. When i see the need of a forum, i make a little investigation and decide using Invision Board, the software we are using, principally for the seciurity adventajes versus phpbb, or others.

In my main forum, in this same server, i use a more new version of this software and receive daily 200 – 300 spambots who try to sign Up. In that forum we are 7 moderators over 450 real members, and is HUGE the time we need use for put a halt to that.

By the way, i am a moderator here with Ensonar, and all we know he is doing a well done job; i never see here a spam message.

For other part, my main duties are in other place and have some months ago a personal trouble who took me more than 5 months to resolve, and ensonar do a one person GREAT job.

Anyway, we are open to suggestionsm, but please check first in google the terms spam bots. Is a really PITA for the admin.

We are doing the possible things for the members interested in participate, but, at least in spanish forums, the maniatic people harrasing others writing as guest, is a true problem. We stop that.

Thank you. That was indeed a more reasonable explanation. 🙂

I look forward to future open dialouge.
