The clearer I see things the more I want to grab the world by the tail and put it in my pocket. We are told to treat clarity as though it is a mistake. What does that mean? A point before our eyes that we trust enough to act according to, but not believe? What do you guys think? I'm confused and want to proceed the right way without acting foolishly.

The way i see clarity (as an enemy) is that it is makes you think that your better than everyone else. We are getting a different perspective of the world than most people. And we think that it is right (the Warrior's Way) and every other path is wrong. So it's really dangerous to act with this clarity because if you think people are wrong, you might not respect them and everyone needs to be given at least a little respect. Or else they become a danger to you.


Since we're talking about the Natural Enemies, what i want to know is how do you know what enemy your facing. i'm not even sure i'm facing Fear yet.

Fear is a lack of mommentum. At first it's gripping, later it's felt as a sticking point. Anytime you Intend to do something and you feel a part of you holding back your experiencing fear. Energetically speaking your point of perception won't budge because of a lack of energy.

The way don Juan lays out the four natural enemies of a warrior in the first book seems to give us a map to guide us on the path of knowledge. And stalking is the method used to hunt our natural enemies.

If fear is our first enemy, then we must stalk fear. Discover what it is you are afraid of, perhaps beginning with the most obvious. Then confront that fear by facing it over and over until it is overcome. Along the way the more subtle and hidden fears will start showing themselves as we continue stalking. And then at some point we will overcome fear and move on to the next natural enemy.

I think we experience fear in one form or another everyday. When we decide to walk the path of the warrior we chose to face it and not run away from it.

I wouldn't say we come "face to face" with fear until we intentionally confront it. Or I suppose you could say that in order to "set foot" on the warrior's path, we must intentionally begin stalking our fear.

I�m not there yet but I�ll venture an opinion for what it�s worth. I think it means that when one has clarity one knows something beyond all doubt but before one acts on this knowledge one should pause in humility & reconsider this knowledge & the act one intends in response, deliberately ignoring ones own certainty. Then act without fear or regret.

Incidentally, I disagree with DJ :o . I think doubt is the first enemy!

In my opinion, clarity is dangerous because it makes you believe you can do anything, and you will end up doing something stupid. Its like when people take PCP and they think they can fly and they end up dead at the bottom of a building. The point is that clarity is an illusion, and it makes you do stupid things.

Isn't doubt just an aspect of fear?
