Omens

Has anyone had experience of looking for omens? Spirit apparently communicates with us all the time if we would but notice. I have noticed a few things which could be signs from spirit but I am never certain exactly what they mean. Therefore I cant act on them.
There was one occasion, years ago now, when I was walking in a park with my daughters. We had just left our car when a bird screeched loudly from a tree near to us. “That be omen of danger that be” I said, showing off to the girls “we better be alert”.
Nothing happened on our walk. But when we returned to the car we found that I had forgot to lock it & all our belongings had been stolen. Doh! Wish I had understood the omen a bit better.
Has anyone acted on omens with any success?

A problem with expressing personal experiences, is just that. They are personal, and don’t necessarily relate to anyone else. But since that’s why we’re here, I’ll express my feelings on the matter.

Omens are everywhere all the time, it’s the voice of the abstract. However, without seeing we can only make judgments and interpretations which are filtered through our inventories. The clearer we become the better the interpretation may be.

I used to get caught up in trying to interpret omens, to the point that it drove me crazy, because I was in a constant state of confusion and uncertainty.

I finally was able to ease up when I realized that it was impossible for a non-seer to make accurate interpretations of omens. Therefore I think the best thing to do for beginners is to go by what don Juan talks about in the early part of Journey to Ixtlan. Paying attention to the agreements of the world.

At a certain point my life went from constantly being pulled back and forth by the voice of the spirit, to a constant movement forward. When one takes everything as an agreement, there doesn’t have to be any interpretation involved. It’s not necessarily as easy as that (depending on how critical a thinker one is), but it certainly broke my obsession.

That’s not to say that one shouldn’t still pay attention to everything and be cautious. I’m just mentioning one aspect which I’ve found important.

Yeah. I understand that now. Seeing is flawless (i imagine). Interpretations are just that, an interpretation based on what I think an omen should be.
Have you, or anyone else, needed to make a decision about something & tried setting an omen up? Asking spirit for advice & then waiting for a sign. I have tried that a couple of times with good results.
    Thanks for the feedback. 😀

Yes. But then, when everything is taken as an agreement, I’m usually just listening/watching for a gesture from the spirit. I generally don’t ask for advice very often these days though.

I think what I do more than anything is pay attention to the direction of movement. That and the abstract word or phrase coming from stray conversations and such.

Great! I am a lot more clear on this subject now. Thanks again.

Dreaming is difficult to probe because is a personal and subjective experience too.

I have a hard time concieving what the spirit is or what to look for. How does the “spirit reveal its “self” to us at every turn?” How do you align with Spirit?

Ryan, do you remember in Journey to Ixtlan when don Juan was talking about the agreements of the world? Do you remember when don Juan said something to Carlos and then “the world” aggreed through the sound of coffee maker gurgling? That’s how the spirit “reveals itself”, or at least don Juan made a fine introduction to it in that way.

It doesn’t matter what form it takes, the spirit speaks to us through the abstract. I used to take walks and would allow the spirit to “choose my route”. I would follow any movement I saw, such as leaves blowing accross the ground, the direction of a bird flying or the direction of another chirping, or a dog barking, or a person yelling, or a car horn blowing. It comes from everywhere all the time. (Sometimes I would end up walking in circles 🙂 )

It sometimes speaks in extremely clear ways, such as through the words of someone in the room saying “yes” or a song saying “it knows more about it than you”, etc. It comes from the random, but it pertains to each one of us individually.

How do you align with Spirit?

I talk too much. If I didn’t perhaps I could answer that question.
