Quotes
Hello
I would like to suggest that we have a section where we can post quotes from favourite books or magazine articles. There are many sources of information out there and none of us would have access to them all. If we liked the quotes then we could go look for the original source, or just think about the info given in the quote.
“I believe in the future resolution of these two states, dream and reality, which are seemingly so contradictory, into a kind of absolute reality, a surreality, if one may so speak.”
~Andre Breton, Manifesto of Surrealism
Great I like that. From a source I would not have thought of looking at.
great idea, followed by a great quote!
My favorite quote, from the end of The Shawshank Redemption. Spoken by “Red” (played by Morgan Freeman) as he’s just been released from prison and is heading down to Mexico:
“I find I’m so excited, I can barely sit still or hold a thought in my head. I think it’s the excitement only a free man can feel. A free man at the start of a long journey whose conclusion is uncertain.”
“Rocket” by Smashing Pumpkins
I love the end of the song where it goes;
I shall be free
I shall be free
I shall be free, free
free from the voices,
Inside me.
I shall be free.
Except It doesn’t go that way, it goes like this;
I shall be free
I shall be free
I shall be free, free
Free as the voices
It’s all I need
I shall be free
Well you get the idea.
“How much of your attention can you bring to this present? And the next? Where have you scattered all your attention? Can you turn it away from all its preconceptions and bring it here? This is the key. Your power lies in your attention. A change can either be a movement that drains your power or a movement that you can draw power from. It can be of chance, or of your making”
“Our thoughts are part of where we scatter our attention, our power. Each one is part of a pattern group. They are made of our beliefs, experiences, feelings, fears, and hopes, all our motivators, all collected into jumbled patterns. In a way they are alive and conscious. Depending on how much power we give them, they throw into our consciousness the thoughts they are made of. In this way they control our minds and feelings. They crowd up the works, leaving little room or time to anything else the mind might do. It is a good thing to take our power back and free up the mind for better tasks. These pattern groups of thoughts don’t want to give it up, though. They are afraid they will die. After all, they are doing what they’ve always done, following instructions we gave them from our thoughts. They’re trying to take care of us. Only most of their configurations don’t even make much sense, they conflict and cause stress. Every time we rethink one of their component thoughts we give away power to them. To stop the flow of habitual thoughts is to collect lost power and take control of your mind and emotions and actions. It is easier to do this if the patterns realize you accept them as a valid but changing piece of your construction and you mean them no harm. You have no war with yourself. You only wish for them to assist you in some other way. War means somebody loses, and in this, balance is dubious. Balance counsels for equilibrium of advantage and total respect. The patterns now become your mentor and shield instead of your dictator. And you become their healer. To empty one’s mind of thoughts at will, you can see, is crucial. It has always been taught all over our world to apprentices of hidden knowledge. The apprentice then can learn how to experience and choose action instead of being trapped in reaction.”
Kay Cordell Whitaker – The Reluctant Shaman
“Reality leaves a lot to the imagination.”
John Lennon.
Anything will give up it’s secrets if you love it enough.
-george washington carver
“If the doors of perception were cleansed, every thing would appear to man as it is, infinite.”
-William Blake
The Eagle’s gift of freedom is not a bestowal, but a chance to have a chance.
Nick… I somehow overlooked your first post in this thread, and just assumed it was a thread to post quotes in… oops! 😮
However, I would personally rather keep quotes as just a thread rather than a section all to itself. The reason being, that a thread would keep all the quotes together in one thread. If it were a section… would each quote get its own thread? Seems like overkill a little.
What do you think?
These thoughts did not come in any verbal formation….I may try to express it in words afterwards.
Albert Einstein
Yeah leave it as a thread methinks.
“It is very difficult to talk about sorcery without becoming
entangled in syntax. Metaphorically, sorcery is a multifaceted
gem which lies in deep shadow. It is possible to illuminate a
facet, and through the reflections obtained to get a glimpse of
the whole. But the sides are not coplanar, and often seem to
contradict one another. And the heart of it is not touched.
It is beyond syntax, and even language.”
Prof. Von Helsing
Below are the lyrics for lemon by U2. What a great song. When I watched the video it reminded me of man worshiping his inventory but lusting for something beyond his reflection. I included a link to the video as well. Feel free to sing along. 🙂

See through in the sunlight
She wore lemon
But never in the daylight
She’s gonna make you cry
She’s gonna make you whisper and moan
And when you’re dry
She draws her water from the stone
And I feel
Like I’m slowly, slowly, slowly slipping under
And I feel
Like I’m holding onto nothing
She wore lemon
To colour in the cold grey night
She had heaven
And she held on so tight
A man makes a picture
A moving picture
Through the light projected
He can see himself up close
A man captures colour
A man likes to stare
He turns his money into light to look for her
And I feel
Like I’m drifting, drifting, drifting from the shore
And I feel
Like I’m swimming out to her
Midnight is where the day begins
Midnight is where the day begins
Midnight is where the day begins
Lemon
See through in the sunlight
A man builds a city
With banks and cathedrals
A man melts the sand so he can
See the world outside
her there
A man makes a car
destination
And builds roads to run them on
A man dreams of leaving
But he always stays behind
And these are the days
When our work has come assunder
And these are the days
When we look for something other
Midnight is where the day begins
Midnight is where the day begins
Midnight is where the day begins
Midnight is where the day begins
Midnight is where the day begins
Midnight is where the day begins
Midnight is where the day begins
Midnight is where the day begins
Midnight is where the day begins
Midnight is where the day begins
A man makes a picture
A moving picture
Through the light projected
He can see himself up close
her there
A man captures colour
destination
A man likes to stare
there
He turns his money into light
To look for her
She is the dreamer
She’s imagination
Through the light projected
He can see himself up close
On my Starbucks coffee cup:
“The most important thing in life is to stop saying “I wish” and start saying “I will.” Consider nothing impossible, then treat possibilities as probabilities.”
-David Copperfield
Wallflower by Peter Gabriel
Shutters on the windows, no light at all
Damp on the floor you got damp on the bed
They’re trying to get you crazy – get you out of your head
They feed you scraps and they feed you lies
To lower your defences, no compromise
Nothing you can do, they day can be long
You mind is working overtime, you body’s not too strong
Hold on, hold on
They put you in a box so you can’t get heard
Let your spirit stay unbroken, may you not be deterred
Hold on, you have gambled with your own life
And you face the night alone
While the builders of the cages
They sleep with bullets, bars and stone
They do not see your road to freedom
That you build with flesh and bone
They take you out – the light burns your eyes
To the talking room – it’s not surprise
Loaded questions from clean white coats
Their eyes are all as hidden as their Hipppcratic Oath
They tell you – how to behave, hehave as their guest
You want to resist them, you do your best
They take you to your limits, they take you beyond
For all that they are doing there’s no way to respond
Hold on, hold on
They put you in a box so you can’t get heard
Let your spirit stay unbroken, may you not be deterred
Hold on, you have gambled with your own life
And you face the night alone
While the builders of the cages
They sleep with bullets, bars and stone
They do not see your road to freedom
That you build with flesh and bone
Though you may disappear, you’re not forgotten here
And I will say to you, I will do what I can do
You may disappear, you’re not forgotten here
And I will say you you, I will do what I can do
And I will do what I can do
And I will do what I can do
