a web site

Here’s an interesting web site that focusses on deconstructing our beliefs and fixations using buddhist ‘psychology’. The particular page I’ve presented gives an overview of the course’s methods and theory. I find it compatible with CC’s beginning teachings where we learn not to take our view of reality for granted. I especially like the last paragraph where they deconstruct the deconstruction course!

Click on the “transcripts/papers” link on the left of the page to read some actual dialogues from courses. Many are insightful IMO.

a razor’s edge

I have no final conclusions, but the experiences of my life have ranged from trying to become something, to acquire something, to seeing that there is nothing one can add to what actually is. And it now seems to me that the warrior’s path is some middle way, some joining of these seemingly contradictory worlds. But it’s very difficult for me to find any purpose in this. I feel quite certain that the outcome of all this labor is nothing more than being able to claim controlled folly over folly; and I’m equally certain that there is no controller – that what we call control is merely accepting what is rather than resisting it, but there is no control or controller other than spirit, and there is no personal link with spirit – how could universal spirit be personal? Maybe it’s both and neither.

Anyway, as I said – no final conclusions; I still wonder at what a warrior actually is, what the whole picture will look like when I can see it all instead of portions. But today, it seems like a lot of work for nothing but the illusion of controlling folly and I’d rather just watch it arise. Maybe I’m more inclined towards seeing than sorcery. I just don’t see any point to it. And to act towards it (sorcery) anyway, as a not-doing or something, would just be artificial at this time.

So how are things going for you guys and girls? Are you finding what you’re looking for in CC’s work? Is there fulfillment or do you not expect to ever be fulfilled? What will it take for you to say to yourself, “This is it. This is what I dreamed it would be like. I’ve accomplished my quest.”? Or will there be eternal longing?

reflecting on thoughts

When I used to think of people, myself included, as being asleep or unconscious, I had seen this model for reality, that it was so difficult to wake up because we were in a dream within a dream within a dream…

I recently verified this from my latest perspective, observing thoughts arising –
When we perceive thoughts arising and falling away, we are pretty close to being ‘awake’ or seeing actual reality. But when we think about thoughts the dreaming/sleeping begins. While observing thoughts arising, there is nothing to be done about them, they belong to no one, they mean nothing, etc. But as soon as we think about the thoughts arising, we give them some power, some reality in that they are worth acting upon, believing in, doing something about, meaningful to me, because they are ‘my’ thoughts…

The amazing thing is, it isn’t even ‘us’ who are thinking about the thoughts. Thought is thinking about itself! Thought is self-reflecting in order to create ‘reality’. As I’ve stated elsewhere, there is no ‘me’, just a bundle of thoughts, collected, given adhesion, gravity, by awareness localizing itself to the body-mind. Just look at the internal dialogue (I intentionally didn’t say ‘your’ internal dialogue). When you try to stop it, it keeps going, in spite of you. It has a mind of its own. It isn’t ‘you’ or ‘yours’. Thought is reflecting upon itself to create the universe. It is doing this IN awareness, which IS what we are, and we can make awareness be still and thought will stop self-reflecting and the world will stop. We don’t actually make awareness be still – we remember the silence, the stillness that awareness is behind everything.

Anyway, this sheds light on breaking the mirror of self-reflection. The self, which is a collected bundle of thoughts, self-reflects as a collective, just as thoughts self reflect, and this creates the illusion of the ‘me’ or ego or self-important human form.

So I just thought it was cool, the dream within a dream thing – thoughts arising; thoughts self-reflecting; thoughts thinking in collective bundles giving rise to the idea of self; self interacting and reflecting other selves’ thoughts (talking to others, thinking about others, caring what others think of us, etc.; self interacting with its reflection as if it were an actual world ‘out there’…

kudos

I would like to share my admiration for those of you who have not indulged in pointing out how frequently I post, and how this is yet another sign of how I’m not a warrior. If you’ve truly gotten over these measurements, it is a sign of how well you’re doing. 😆

Sincerely though. It’s no small accomplishment.

All measurements are personal and arbitrary, as they assume oneself to be the the ideal instead of just another description. In other words, the only measure one can make starts from oneself, one’s ideas, concepts, beliefs, opinions, knowledge.
If you don’t possess ALL knowledge, your measure is partial, personal and arbitrary.
Even if you think you’re measuring someone against the warrior’s way, you can’t do this! If you are not the complete warrior, your measure will be partial and incomplete.

As a warrior, one can never know enough of the totality to make a conclusion about anything or anyone. This is not a warrior’s concern. Hopefully, you’ve dropped this as well.

You can make false measurements and think that you know something; or you can revel in the mystery and assume your place in it, as it. (as DJ said)

power

You know, probably everyone gets into Castaneda, or something spiritual with the idea that they will acquire something that they don’t have now.
(Thanks, Mr. Obvious!)

The root of this, IMO, is the search for power. We’ve felt lost, victimized, powerless… and at some point we get angry and want to have some control, and we start controlling people and things around us. Simply acquiring knowledge, as in Castaneda’s system, a knowledge that most people won’t be familiar with, makes us superior and more powerful and in control, in the know… we have the truth, or at least more truth than ‘they’ do.

This should all be observed. Watch your intent. And remember that power is one of the natural enemies of man. It, too, is just as illusory as fear and clarity.
All your ambition, all your goals, are related to power and acquiring something.

I’m not saying give it up and be an average human.
I’ve been saying there’s nothing average about being human.

Anyway, I’m not prescribing behaviour for anyone either. I’m just reminding you what you have to look forward to. Search, find, acquire… go crazy. The result will be the same as when you thought you were powerless. Then what?

Don’t just agree with me. Don’t give up your search. Find out for yourself. I’m just saying this so maybe you’ll find out quicker.

There can be only One.

“There is only one being.
When corrupted by self-identification, it is known as an individual.
When merely tinted by the sense of presence, it is the impersonal witnessing.
When it remains pristine and untainted in primal repose, it is the Absolute.”

what is religion?

I noticed this in the main screen and, well, of course my commentary kicked in.
Here’s the internal discussion externalized, if anyone’s interested…
or bored and nothing better to do. 😆

“This website is no way trying to treat “Nagualism” as a religion, nor a cult.”

This is easier said than done.
If we look (just looking) at what a religion is, it’s basically a collection of beliefs.
Various religions, and various denominations within religions, arise due to various beliefs.

So to say that we can approach CC’s works without beliefs or without creating new beliefs that are opposed to other beliefs, just like any religion does… Well, it’d be nice if it was that way. But it’s not. Perhaps it’s intended to be.

Anyway, I could just be nit-picking with words, but I also don’t think “Castaneda-ism” is any different or special when compared to any other religion. Everyone has their version of freedom, no matter how obscene. Many so-called religions, when done correctly, transcend the religious structure and code of morals, etc.

And nit-picking with words isn’t such a bad thing. They often do create the structure of our intent. The more awareness we put into them, the more aware is our intent.

discussion with Ensonar

Wow! Flood control. Now that’s necessary! All the hundreds of posts coming in at once! 😆

Okay, a short, concise discussion.
Two things come to mind:

1. I wanted to point out that if something or someone or someone’s actions, etc, seem familiar to you, perhaps it is because you are occupying a familiar AP position. It is unwarrior-like conduct to lay blame at others feet. By labelling someone or something… labels like “old” and “new”, or “teacher”, or “too bookish”, or any such label… you are in essence blaming them for your perception… that is, acting as if you perceive truly and clearly and actually, instead of the reality that you are perceiving your own thought projections, ie. self-reflection.

2. As moderator, is that something that you take sincerely, or is it just fallen to you as the creator of this web page? I ask because it’s a big responsibility. As moderator, you have to be the picture of moderation. I see labels as preventing you from fulfilling such a task. Labels are not moderate. They are commitments, even if you cover your ass by saying you’re not 100% sure. What is the purpose in posting speculations? There are many things about moderation I could point out.

So this doesn’t have to be a discussion. I just felt obligated to point them out. Maybe I’m trying to see if you’re sincere. Maybe I want to see if I can expose the excuses you give yourself with labels, what will you do? What will fill that hole?

Oh, here’s another one: a warrior doesn’t have the luxury of choice. If you engage someone, by labelling them, you don’t get to excuse yourself because their response is too long, and (again) blame them for your clinging to concepts. You commit yourself when you label someone. And if my post to you gets “miles” long, perhaps it’s because there’s so much shit I’m trying to point out. Drop the crap and my posts will become shorter. I promise. But if you could drop the shit, it probably wouldn’t be there to be pointed at.

Here are just three things. I could go on, but I’ve already snuck the third in and am risking lengthiness.

children seers

Are all young children seers?

My daughter, now seven, is a seer. I have known that she is a seer for 3 years. There is no way I am going to prove that to any of you, so I hope you will take my word for it. I was not a warrior when my son was in preschool, so I never found out if he was a seer then. He is not now. I am not now. My question is simple: are all young children seers, or is my daughter exceptional? Does it make a difference whether the child is a boy or girl? I have read that all girls are seers and that boys are not. Girls lose the ability to see when it is not encouraged by adults and boys never learn because it is not addressed by adults. I am encouraging this with my daughter now because it is something that all of us yearn for. I have told her that it is special, but I tried not to make a huge deal of it because I don’t want her to be conceited about it.
